Dianne Nelson, one of the founders of the Wild Horse Sanctuary, was so moved by the plight of the wild horses, she determined to save as many as possible from a life of confinement or destruction. Since the first rescue in 1978 the non-profit Wild Horse Sanctuary has continued to bring as many of the un-adoptable captured horses as the donations and land will maintain.

The methodical removal of the horses from the open range continues. Dianne and husband Ted persevered with her dream to keep alive a part of the American West… the wild horses, which at the Sanctuary may roam wild and free.
